This workshop will explore the various types of child homicide cases and how to effectively investigate and prosecute these cases. The workshop will cover important medical findings and how those correlate to a determination of homicide. The workshop will explore how to further investigate and corroborate those findings and ultimately effectively present them at trial. The workshop will discuss how to determine accident versus murder as well as identifying the correct offender.
Learning Objectives:
Understand important medical findings in a variety of child death cases, including abusive head trauma, bruises and contusions, fractures limbs, abdominal injuries, and pattern injuries
Correlate the medical findings to other evidence to make a determination of accident versus murder
Understand how to effectively present this complex evidence to a jury to successfully obtain a conviction
