Chief Felony Prosecutor - Crimes Against Children Division Harris County District Attorney's Office
Let's forget "he said, she said," take a step back, and start looking in unexpected places for evidence we can use in our cases. This training will provide ideas and examples of types of evidence we usually overlook or discount as unhelpful. Particularly in a typical delayed outcry case, it can feel like we don't have any real evidence to present - other than the victim. The goal of this training will be to utilize even the most benign witnesses and evidence to our advantage at trial, and seek out evidence and other potential witnesses from the beginning.
Learning Objectives:
List the types of evidence we usually shy away from in a delayed outcry case and assess how we can use that evidence.
Employ steps to prepare, present, and protect this previously overlooked evidence - starting at pretrial.
Change the way we approach this "boring" evidence, and learn to ask the right questions to find hidden witnesses and information we can use.
