Statewide Training and Education Coordinator Child Advocacy Centers of Tennessee
Children on the autism spectrum have unique challenges, including communication, social interaction, and sensory needs that if acknowledged and provided, can result in trusting relationships and positive experiences. In this engaging and at times lighthearted session, Ruth will present autism and the needs of caregivers, using stories and examples from her life as a parent, teacher, and provider. Her deep knowledge and experience will give attendees tools they can use.
Learning Objectives:
Identify questions to ask caregivers that build relationships and solicit helpful information to interact with the child.
Demonstrate responding to an auditory processing delay to provide the maximum opportunity for engagement.
Describe sensory deficits and effective interventions to reduce anxiety in new and unfamiliar environments.
