Children exposed to violence with an emphasis on Intimate Partner Violence and Physical Child Abuse continues to be actively researched in efforts to decrease the long-term physical, psychological and developmental impacts for survivors. This presentation will review new research regarding domestic violence adversity and the diverse results of poor health, developmental disabilities, psychosocial dysfunction of children and the worst outcomes of an earlier death.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will review research that CEV results in permanently elevated cortisol levels that cause chronic non-psychological diseases.
Participants will review research that domestic violence adversity promotes chronic anxiety, PTSD, and depression in children.
Participants will discuss how chronic exposure to prenatal violence may have a direct relationship to pediatric developmental disabilities.
