The 2015 Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act gave U.S. Marshals enhanced authority to assist state, local, tribal, and other federal law enforcement agencies with missing child cases. Since then U.S. Marshals have assisted in locating thousands of high-risk missing children.
The USMS missing child program primarily focuses on high-risk runaways and other missing juveniles who are at an elevated risk for victimization or other harm. Special attention is given to children who are missing from care, have a high potential for victimization due to human trafficking, physical abuse, or sexual abuse, or risk of harm due to mental health or medical concerns. The presentation will include information on several new projects, including a new initiative focusing on missing Indigenous youth.
