There are many uses and benefits to polygraph interviews in investigations and prosecutions of child abuse and exploitation. This presentation focuses on the methods of use and benefits from the prospective of a long-time child abuse and exploitation prosecutor. AUSA Callie Woolam and DPS SA Roy Basham will discuss using the tool of polygraph testing and interviewing to obtain confessions, increase sentences, locate victims and evidence, eliminate potential suspects, and further help a child abuse and exploitation prosecution and investigation. The presentation will focus on when and how polygraph interviews can be incredibly useful in criminal cases and will address navigating what portions of polygraph interviews are admissible in court and what portions are not. Presenters will include multiple real-life examples of cases where these tools were effectively used resulting in successful prosecutions and lengthy sentences for child abusers and predators.
