This presentation aims to inform law enforcement about wandering and elopement behaviors, particularly in individuals with cognitive conditions such as autism and intellectual disabilities. Wandering and elopement occur when an individual leaves a safe space, posing risks like injury, abduction, or exposure to dangerous situations. Law enforcement officers will learn how to recognize these behaviors, respond effectively, and engage with families and caregivers to ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals. They will also be given some NCMEC resources that could assist with their investigation and response to persons with a developmental/Intellectual Disabilities.
