Director of Forensic Services The Children's Assessment Center
Taking Texas child abuse law step by step, this training will provide forensic interviewers a basis for why law enforcement is likely asking them to clarify certain details with the child victim during the interview. Presenters will give practical advice on how to testify more effectively, and the presenters will also present a mock direct/cross examination so the audience can see how to address typical arguments from defense counsel during trial.
Learning Objectives:
Examine typical child abuse law - using Texas as a guide - to build a basic understanding of the framework of a criminal case.
Employ this new knowledge of child abuse law to improve the forensic interview process by using examples and scenarios.
Provide examples on how to testify in court more effectively, and demonstrate a mock direct examination and cross examination.
